Welcome to Smallholding.net
First of all, why Smallholding?
A smallholding is loosely defined as a small, single family farm designed to provide for and sustain its inhabitants through limited livestock and or agriculture. Technically, I don’t believe a smallholding even qualifies as a farm by strict definition, but again, this is a loose definition.
I have been fortunate enough to purchase my childhood home which my parents designed and helped to build. My mother being a veterinarian, we always had a variety of animals that we were either nursing back to health or had as pets. Between this and my father’s penchant for obscure terms and facts, somewhere in the process of building, the house became known as Smallholding and the name has stuck with it for the past 30 years.
One night, while trying to think of a generic name for a website that I could use for my IT consulting services, photography and an attempt at writing, I happened to look up at the chimney and saw the sign that a family friend had carved as a house warming present all those years ago.
The name just kind of stuck again.
